Just noticed that you have “Add beef and cook till no longer brown” but do you mean “Add beef and cook till no longer PINK?”
    Thanks 🙂

    • Mike

      Really, Jenny?

Did you really ask that question?

      • Galen

        Thanks for the laugh Mike.

        • Angelina

Still laughing at this comment 8 years later!!

  • Megan B

Loved it! Only thing I did different was add 1 teaspoon of a new Italian Seasoning try out. Hubby like it too and he is not a “cheesy pasta” fan. Definitely going into the rotation and would make a great dish for company (since its just us two for now) Thanks so much!!!

    • Budget Savvy Diva

I love the seasoning idea! I am so glad you liked it 🙂

  • Kim Jackson

The recipe for Classic Baked Ziti looks great. Do you, by any chance, have the nutritional information?

  • glenda

Just wanted to let you know that I made this for my family tonight and it was a hit! Very tasty!

  • Brandon

having trouble finding 32 oz jar of sauce……only 24 oz

    • Budget Savvy Diva

Hmmm… You can try the 24 oz and see … or use 1.5 jars of sauce

      • Brandon

went with 1 and a 1/3 jars as that would be the right math…….great dish 🙂

        • Jenell

Well as long as you got the math right you should be fine now!!! Wow!

  • Jen

    How many does this serve?

    • Jen

Nevermind, I read further & saw 🙂 making this weekend for a houseful of guests 🙂

  • Marci Byrd

This was super quick and easy… And yummy! I omitted the onion, but used minced onion when browning the hamburger. I halved the recipe since there are only two of us. Instead of layering, I mixed all the ziti and meat sauce together… I did add a layer of cheese in between, though! I also used shredded Parmesan instead of grated. My husband and I both loved it! I would add more cheese (I love cheese!), but my husband won’t let me as he isn’t a huge fan like I am. He would have liked more sauce, but I won’t because I’m not a huge red sauce fan. LOL! Thanks for sharing on Pinterest!

  • Nikki Sabiston

I have made this several times for my family and they LOVE it! I used a jar of spaghetti sauce and an 8oz can of tomato sauce to get 32 oz. and substituted basil for the oregano. They eat every bite!

    • Budget Savvy Diva

      Perfect 🙂

  • Billie McCombs

Loved this, thanks for sharing. I too modified…I used beef broth instead of chicken and Emeril’s Essence Seasoning because I had it and did not have the onion and garlic powder and they were $4 each at the store and I may not use them again. And how can you go wrong with Emeril? And I’ll be eating it for a week!! And I gave you credit on my modified recipe!!

    • Amy Stoker

Billie, do you have a dollar general store or a family dollar store where you live? They have spices like garlic powder and onion powder and most of the other spices for a dollar. I am spoiled to that cheap price! I have a hard time now if I have to pay more than a dollar for a spice I need. Lol

  • Susan Hogan

I make mine this way with no meat. Cook the noodles. Use enough sauce and RICOTTA cheese together to cover the noodles. Add mozzarella to stir in and to layer on top. Bake until cheese is bubbly brown.

  • Nicole

I am trying to find more family friendly pastas for my family of four. I have a hubby that has acid reflux diesease (by dr orders he can’t have acid base foods), and my two childern are not fans of red sauce. Has anyone tried this with white sauce?
I am going to try it myself and tweet the season a little, but will let you know how it turns out.
I am thinking subsitute the beef with chicken, and white sauce, instead of red sauce. Wish me luck!

  • Carrie

This was a hit tonight! I did half ground meat and half Italian sausage.

  • Ashley

Do you know how this freezes and reheats? Im looking for dishes I can freeze and reheat!!! But I will try this regardless, just wondering

  • Maria Boylan

I made this as a Saturday night “learning the ropes” cooking experiment with my Mom. First of all, it wasn’t quite “budget savvy” but that’s okay because it was delicious! seriously, excellent dish. It was very easy to make…..well, not completely simple….but the key thing was to pay attention to the skillet, noodles, and the sauce at the same time. I did that successfully but I also had the help of my mom.

K so about the dish itself…..lovely. It smelled amazing. I’m an intense cheese lover so I loaded it up with Mozzarella. But its kinda cooked liked lasagna because you can load it up, bit by bit, with cheese, sauce, and meat. Actually, its almost exactly like lasagna except its ziti.

Most importantly, the taste. Holy Cow. GREAT. especially since I decided to load up the cheese….wise choice. Its also a very plentiful amount and made for great left overs. Its ooey gooey goodness and I would like to make it again!

I would suggest this recipe to anyone that loves Italian food and to anyone that has a lot of people to feed!

    Cook it & Enjoy!!!

    • Budget Savvy Diva

I am so happy you enjoyed it! Next you should try to make homemade ricotta ( I just posted the recipe) —- it is easy and it is some of the best cheese I have ever tasted!

      • Jennifer

        Hi

        Jennifer

        • Watson

          Yep 🙂

  • Rebecca

Has anyone tried freezing leftovers? How did it turn out?

  • Nancy

  • BJ

2Thumbs up for this baked ziti recipe…a big hit. Thanks for sharing it!

  • Katie

Looks good, but really isn’t this just lasagna without the ricotta and changing the noodles?
I thought what made ziti was the addition of sour cream.
    Check it.
    layer of noodles
    layer of provolone
    dollop of sour cream
    sauce
    little motz
REPEAT except cover the top with lots of Motz and Parmesan cheese.
    trust me…SO yummy

This is a great dish, my family and I really enjoyed it. I used a mild Italian sausage instead of ground beef. Thank you for sharing this easy and super yummy recipe.

I make this all the time. Only things I do different is I too add Italian seasonings to the sauce and I put a jar of Classico Italian Sausage and Peppers and Onions in with my other sauce. My family LOVES this ! Then for my bread, I take French bread or BBQ bread, spread butter, sprinkle garlic on top , add shredded Italian Blend cheese and parsley and bake. It really adds to the Baked Ziti. Enjoy and thanks

  • Cathy

Love love love! Just made this recipe and my family was asking for seconds! Used “sazón completo” by Goya instead of garlic powder and onion powder for more flavor. I love me some spice so I added crushed red peppers for a kick- turned out great!

  • Shannon k

This recipe is so fabulous! My husband would eat this daily if he could. It doesn’t really matter how you layer it as long as the noodles are saucy. Thanks for the great recipe:)

  • Anna L.

I am going to make your recipe tonight for my boyfriend’s birthday dinner.
Wish me luck, his family will be there! Sounds really good.

  • Angela C.

I just made this for my husband and 4 sons – it was absolutely delicious! I substituted Italian sausage for the ground beef (a preference by my hubby) but otherwise followed the recipe to a “T.” Thank you for sharing!!

  • Valerie

What kind of chicken broth do you prefer?

    • Sara

I tend to use the store brand.

  • Casi

How many people does this feed ?

    • Sara

      6 people 🙂

  • Kathryn

This is amazing! And super easy too. I substituted Italian sausage. The leftovers taste even better. Thanks for a great recipe!

Omg. Clearly i am like 5 years late, but I made this tonight and it was amazing. I had to used dried onion because I ran out of fresh, and I omitted the onion powder all together because I didn’t have any. But this was so delicious! And everyone in my family loved it!

Although I’m an alkaline vegan, my husband and children have not fully transitioned just yet. They enjoyed the dish. Each of them gave a thumbs up and that doesn’t happen all the time. It’s definitely a winner in my book because I swear my family are some of the pickiest eaters. Thanks for sharing!!!!

  • Lovina

Am making this dish for a crowd of about 100. Has anyone made this dish for a large group? I would like to make it earlier in the day and put it in a large electric roaster then heat it up before serving. Im concerned if that will work.

I made this tonight and the kids loved it! I snuck in some broccoli and I almost always use sausage over ground beef and cook it on its own first while I boil the water for pasta. I don’t know I just always cook the meat alone to make sure it’s cooked. I dump it back in when I put the sauce in. Very good!

  • Galen

So… The top layer is the noodles? Won’t they get awfully crunchy in the oven without sauce over them?

  • KA

Hey y’all- can you make this beforehand and leave in fridge and bake later in the day? I’m not a huge fan of reheating so would like to make ahead of time and bake later in the day so it’s ready for dinner.

  • Wendy Walker

Its too bad we can’t just print ONE recipe but have too print 18 pages !! When I just want one.

  • Caitlin

Hi! I know a lot of people use cream cheese on their pasta when they make baked spaghetti. Has anyone every tried that with ziti? I like a saucy & creamy pasta dish. 🙂

  • Pat

Can you put this together and bake the next day?

  • Bonnye

So I am about to make this for dinner tonight, and I always read through comments to get and tips, and I just gotta say, this comment thread has been lit for years!

  • Jen

No where in the directions does it say when or how you use the beef? Do you add to the noodles or layer. A complete recipe would have been better.

  • Jennifer Lopez

This was so delish! My husband and kids went back for seconds! Me too☺

  • Kimily

I want to try this tonight but I don’t have ziti. Could I possible substitute rotini? Thank you!
