DIY Pokémon Pikachu Valentines Box (2024)

Did you know that Pokémon has been around for 25 years now? That just blows my mind since I remember how popular it was when we were younger. It’s now one of the hottest tv shows (again) and stores can’t keep the cards in stock. If your kids love the show too, they can celebrate Valentine’s Day with this adorable DIY Pokémon Pikachu Valentines Box! Exchanging valentines and making a box is a great way to let their personality shine.

I don’t know much about Pokemon, after all, there are a 150+ Pokemon (remember the theme song?). What I do know is that you don’t have to be a Pokemon Master to make this Valentines Box. It’s actually quite simple and you just need some everyday craft supplies.

I started making Valentines Boxes for my kids and it became a tradition. We get so excited to make one each year that we start a month before to brainstorm new ideas. We’ve made a Dinosaur Valentines Box, Dragon Valentines Box and an Alligator Valentines Box.

How To Make A Pokémon Pikachu Valentines Box

One of the craft supplies you’ll use is glue. You can certainly use school glue, but a glue gun works even better. Obviously, you’ll need to use the glue gun and assist your child. If they’d rather use school glue, so they can make it themselves, then go ahead and let them! The box just won’t hold as long. I’ve made my valentines boxes both ways.

Materials You’ll Need:

• Yellow Bulletin Board Paper Roll
• Cereal Box Or Cracker Box
• Scissors
• Tape
• Pencil
• Black Sharpie
• Pink, White and Red card stock Paper (Or Construction Paper)
• Glue Stick (or Glue Gun)
• Printer with Black Ink & Copy Paper

Step-By-Step Directions To Make Your Pokémon Pikachu Valentines Box

Start by covering your cereal box with yellow bulletin board paper, like you would wrap a gift. Secure the edges with tape. Draw an opening, with your Pencil, that will be the slot for the valentines. Cut the slot out using your scissors. You can place the opening at the top of the box OR on the side.

Next, click on the template PDF below and print out the designs. Use your scissors to cut out the template design pieces. There should be two ears, two heart cheeks, a mouth and two arms.

Place the pieces over the color card stock you need and cut them out. The ears and arms will be cut out from the yellow bulletin paper. The heart cheeks will be red. The mouth will be cut from red card stock.

Glue the arm and ear pieces onto white card stock and cut out the shape again. This will give the pieces support to be erect on the box.

Cut the mouth template along the dotted line to make a new template for the pink part of the mouth. Stack those pieces to complete the mouth and glue together.

Use your Black Sharpie marker to color the tips of the ears.

Place all of your template pieces on top of your covered yellow box. Make sure they’re exactly where you want them to be – using the photos as your guide.
